Facebook to Support Republican and Democrat Conventions

Facebook has announced it will sponsor both the Republican and the Democratic conventions.
It says it will provide the conventions not only with financial backing but also a “Facebook Lounge” on the premises and other forms of support.
Facebook put out a statement saying it wasn’t endorsing either party, all it was doing was encouraging people to participate in the election.
Facebook will support both the Republican and Democratic conventions in a similar manner and without endorsing any one candidate, issue, or political party,” said Facebook’s vice president of U.S. public policy, Erin Egan.
“This support allows Facebook to facilitate an open dialogue among voters, candidates, and elected officials during the conventions, just as it has during other critical moments in the U.S. elections and in elections around the world,” the statement went on.
It’s all part of the strategy designed to turn Facebook into the source for real-time news.
It will also allow people to use Facebook to put questions to candidates.
Facebook is expected to run live-streaming and use the conventions to sell highly targeted ads.
